Can-Am: Prem. Leather
Author: Pete Lyons, Photography by Peter Harholdt
Format: Hardcover bound in leather, 11” x 11”, 280 pages
Photos: 194 color photographs
ISBN 13: 978-1-935007-11-1
The Premium Publisher’s Edition of Can-Am Cars in Detail is offered in a numbered series limited to just 40 examples. Like the Publisher’s Edition, it features 36 additional pages of photographs and text covering 10 more rare Can-Am cars, and is autographed by 10 great Can-Am drivers and constructors.
These men contributing autographs to the Premium Publisher's Edition include: Tyler Alexander (McLaren); Eric Broadley (Lola); Dan Gurney, (AAR); Jim Hall (Chaparral); and Don Nichols (Shadow). It is also signed by five great drivers: Chris Amon; Mario Andretti; George Follmer (1972 champion); Jackie Oliver (1974 champion); and John Surtees (1966 champion).
The book itself is bound in luxurious garment-quality black leather with silver metallic printing, and the cover features a close-up image of the intake trumpets from a Can-Am engine. It is presented in a specially fabricated aluminum box designed to emulate the monocoque tub for a Can-Am car. The box features the same purple DeHavilland rivets as used by Lola and other manufacturers, a plexiglass cover that recalls a sports-car windscreen, and push-pin quick-release opener. It was built with the help of former Carl Haas Lola crew chief Ike Smith, who remains actively involved in restoring vintage Can-Am cars today.
