Photos: 117 black-and-white and color photos
ISBN: 978-1-893618-98-5
The deluxe Publisher’s Edition of Portraits features 36 added pages of photography, plus an 11” by 13” print of Jesse’s iconic Jim Clark portrait. Both the book and the print are signed by the author and bear matching numbers.
The Publisher’s Edition is presented in a slipcase that shows Jesse behind the wheel of Fangio’s Mercedes W196 in 1961 on one side, and a rakish Maurice Trintignant in his Cooper in 1960 on the other. A portrait of Graham Hill from the mid 1960s is on the dust jacket.
Inside, the book features a special 36-page section of photography selected by Jesse Alexander and designer Doug Joseph. These portraits are presented as plates in gallery style, showing the complete image without cropping. Like the images in the main body of the book, the added photographs in The Publisher’s Edition span five decades and comprise a glittering array of personalities. They include some of his most renowned portraits of charismatic drivers, such as fifty-six-year-old Louis Chiron standing on the grid at Monaco in 1955, with the tribunes and landscape as his backdrop, and Wolfgang von Trips smiling from the cockpit of his Ferrari as he pauses in the pits at the Nürburgring in 1958.
Each deluxe Publisher’s Edition is individually numbered and signed by Jesse Alexander and comes with a limited edition, 11” by 13” print of Jesse’s iconic Jim Clark portrait. This print is also signed and bears the same number as the book.
